Leadership Style
The leadership style that best represents me is “Entrepreneurial” Leadership. According to Dubrin entrepreneurial leadership incorporates the behaviors such as strong achievement drive, sensible risk taking, enthusiasm, creativity, proactive behavior, acts quickly to opportunities, has vision, tenacity, dislikes hierarchy and bureaucracy, prefer dealing with external customers, and is focused on the future (Dubrin page 131). Although I need improvement in some areas Entrepreneurial leadership best fits me, while taking the leadership self-assessment quiz 4-3 where you answer statements that in the end determine if you’re a entrepreneurial leader. After finishing and calculating the quiz I scored 86 out 100 meaning I have the tendencies of a entrepreneurial personality, I enjoy risk taking and change and would be willing to take the risk of earning your income through self-employment. There are eight characteristics of an entrepreneurial leader. An entrepreneurial leader has strong achievement drive and sensible risk taking, in the passage it says “building a business is an excellent vehicle for accomplishment and risk taking”. Starting my own shoe store catered to women with abnormal size feet is my career goal but its an competitive industry so the risk of failure is high but it’s the risk I’m willing to take. Having a high degree of enthusiasm and creativity, when it comes to doing something I love or something that’s going to place me in a higher position I am extremely enthusiastic and creative but I need improvement when it comes building relationship and meeting people not on a business level. In the leadership self-assessment quiz 3-1 you are evaluating yourself to see if you possess the behaviors and attitudes tat reflects charisma. In the quiz from Dubrin chapter 3 the more statements that applies or summarize you means the greater probability that you are perceived to be charismatic. This self assessment helped me realize I am not charismatic, by answering the questions I realized people don’t characterize me as being energetic or making them feel comfortable because of my warm smile. Another aspect of an entrepreneurial leader is being proactive, being someone who finds a opportunity and capitalize on it and acting quickly to one. From my basketball experience I’ve become quick to react and very innovative, the sport taught me to always has a back up plan and take every open opportunity there is to score and win which also can be used in life. In chapter 4 of Dubrin’s Leadership book he states “to be an entrepreneur one has to scan the environment to find an opportunity, and then capitalize on the opportunity”.
