Growing up in Washington, DC there was a lot of violence and me and my family was always affected by it someway somehow. While I was in middle school my brother was shot from a drive by shooting in my neighborhood and my sisters was attacked by gang members. I took the violence in my neighborhood and reached out to the youth like me or older to stop the violence. My family income was low so we couldn't afford to move and get away from it all so my way of trying to prevent it was speaking out. I've always been know as shy to everyone so making a move this bold was shocking to some. While in middle school I entered The National Campaign to Stop the Violence "Do The Write Thing Challenge" where middle school students wrote about how violence affected their life, why certain acts of violence occur, and how to possible stop the violence. I became a youth ambassador representing Washington, DC and my essay along with the other state winners was conducted into the library of congress. I used my experience to help teens understand acts of violence was not okay and acceptable. In high school I joined the basketball team which was a complete shocker for everyone who knew me but I thought it would bring me some normality. I was always teased about being tall, some girls my age didn't want to talk to me because of it so joining the basketball team was to be around people that I can relate to. So through my unique trait I want to inspire, uplift, and create. My career is based off my unique qualities, my height and foot size. My career goal is to open a retail clothing store that offers clothing for tall young adults and women and footwear for women with large foot. Inspiring young tall girls is apart of my mission to I want them to know that there is beauty in their height and you don't have to be apart of the basketball team to feel accepted. Being apart of the new generation is an opportunity for me career and goal wise, I have insight as to what and why things happen. Career wise I know all the trends in fashion that the youth love which can help me with starting my business once I gain experience. As far as helping young women like me my age helps, I know what young girls go through the problems and how insecurities can cause certain things to happen in your life but living and making their goals become reality is something I can help with too. I always knew my family couldn't afford to give me a college education so I made sure my school grades were good enough for scholarships, I used my diversity and experience to get funding for school and right now I am in college. Overall my diversity is what triggers my goals and actions.
